Space Pirates were the first faction introduced to the game, depending on how you look at it. They are a hostile NPC Faction of pirates that harass the Engineer relentlessly. Their aim and purpose is unknown, but what is known is that they desire the destruction of anything the Engineer produces. The SPRT Founder is simply credited as «Space Pirates».
The pirate’s faction tag is SPRT, but their victims often misread and report it as SPAT, either due to panic or due to the suboptimal HUD font.

SPRT’s color scheme seems to vary between bright red, obsidian black, dark grey, and light grey.
Default Pirate Encounters
Among the Custom Games, only the named planet starts (Earth Planet, Mars Planet, Moon Base) come with pirate bases on planets and in space.
Occasionally, the Engineer discovers a pirate base, which defends itself with drones from a distance when the player enters a certain range. Drones are their favorite method of attack against the Space Engineer. The drones have names such as Fleeting Rival, Drifting Pursuant, Stinging Adversary, or Spiteful Aggressor.

Most of the pirate vessels seem to be en-route to a destination set past the boundaries of the map.
Note: There are no pirate bases in the «Star System» on PC (on Xbox, this Custom Game corresponds to “Home System”/“Alien System”/“Distant Moons”). The “SPRT Mayday” signals encountered there are owned by the same pirate faction, but are part of the Random Encounters.
How to trigger Pirate Encounters on any map
You can add pirate enemies to spice up an existing Survival game that did not have them from the start.
- Switch the game to Creative Mode and load it.
- Add (powered and armed) bases to your Blueprints menu — either self-made or from the Workshop.
- Paste the base blueprints into the world.
- Set the name of the antennas to one of the names listed below, e.g. “NO TRESSPASSERS”.
- Set the antenna range to not directly overlap with your base unless you want constant attacks.
- Transfer the ownership of the whole base to the SPRT faction — and run away quickly.
- Close the game and switch it back to Survival Mode.

I want to fight the space pirates. How do I spawn them in?
Basically the title. Ships are fine but info on bases would be cool too. Also, I am in space, not a planet. Thanks!

А знаете как можно в космосе пиратов включить? Я делал так. Ставил источник питания и антенну, называл антенну точно как у пиратов и отдавал пиратам в собственность блоки. Переключался в режим выживания. После чего через некоторое время там появлялась «жизнь». Не уверен спаунилась ли там полноценная база, но дроны оттуда летели. Вот так я подключал в космосе пиратов в Пустом Мире.

thank you for your suggestion. Our next release will be focusing on making the game more accessible for new and existing players (user intuitiveness), but also on re-doing and polishing default scenarios (Easy Start Space, Empty World, etc.). Therefore we will for sure consider this idea!

In the mean time, check out the «Modular Encounters» collection of mods up on the workshop. It has a pirate planetary installion and ship wreck/chashed ship mod to give you all sorts of fun things to PvE against.

@Lee Conlin Correct me if I’m wrong here — but I don’t believe any *content* is hidden behind the paid dlc, only aesthetic updates and alternate blocks. Again, I could be wrong, as I just buy all of the DLC to support Keen to keep them working on this game, but seriously — help me understand the feeling that they are blocking people with a paywall anywhere.
And as for them stealing it from the workshop — I personally can’t blame Keen for taking the best ideas out there and incorporating them into the game. With that said, I also make sure to jump on the donate button for all the mods that I’ve used on my server over the years to say thank you to the original mod developers and I really hope that everyone else has done the same to say thank you to the mod devs for their work.

i would like there to be randomly generated pirate bases, perhaps in accordance with a planet’s seed so that their locations would be consistent once a planet is spawned, and also in space, which can also be NPC spawn points. For some reason the PVE corruption mod that should add bases doesnt seem to work

Any possibility pirates could get a buff? there is still very little reason for any SERIOUS armament on vanilla ships, since pirate threats are few and just not very aggressive. packs of pirates that could attack a base at random times, or ships that are bit heavier ina rmor and weapons would provide more of a challenge to those of us who enjoy building large capital ships meant for battle and those who play singleplayer

The base is there because that’s what it means by easy start is that it has all the basic essentials needed to survive already there so that you don’t need to worry about it. Also, I do agree with you on adding pirate bases. I think it would be great if they made it so that you can take over a pirate base (or maybe even a player-owned base and make it your own because if that was I would probably set it up so that when assimilating a base it takes several minutes to complete the assimilation allowing whoever owns the base to fight back against the person assimilating and stop the assimilation process.

Try Artificial mass blocks or thrusters, I use them for tanks to prevent them from getting thrown into space by Keen’s magical shockwaves. Works like a charm. Also, a question for keen: Is it possible to negate the effects of shockwaves in space if a missile explodes next to a ship instead of on it? In reality, a vacuum would not transfer the energy to the ship. Maybe increase the power of the shockwaves as air pressure increases, i.e. descending to a planet.

As we all know, Newton’s laws specifically address how that for every action, there is an intensely disproportionate reaction, and that force applied to a massive body is directly proportional to cinematics, and shall completely ignore the mass of the bodies the force is acting on (You know.. just like in real life).
They quote it in the loading screen sometime, and I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what (KSH) thinks it says.

And you can’t just blast the station to smithereens because there is some valuable loot or MacGuffin you need.

@Boldtaar I honestly think Keen have not watched their support page for like years. It was already «in Progress» 2 years ago, Same as the ghost issue post is «under investigation» for years now, I highly doubt that there is any meaning attached to what they say on this forum.

What about the most wanted update? It added many new items and features the game had been lacking for a very long time all of which were added in response to community feedback. KSH may be slow adding new content and responding to requests but the do take action based on player requests.

Pirate bases were added in update 01.100, they use an antenna to spawn drones that chase after you using a Programmable Block and the new autopilot.
The drones will give up after going 20km away from their spawn point after the 1.100.24 hotfix.
Drone Types:
Informant Drone:
This drone spots players and warns his allies. When a player is spotted by an Informant he will get attacked by armed drones.
The informant is easily recognized by its small size, antenna and 2 Solar Panels. It is not equipped with weapons
Assailant:
The most basic attack drone. It is usually spawned in by antennas of ships requesting assistance. Its exposed components make it very vulnerable to lateral fire, and its single turret can easily be taken out with frontal fire.

A crescent-shaped, heavily armed and armored black ship. It will occasionally be spawned by military ships, and can seriously add to the challenge they pose.

Combat strategy :
The Eradicator’s massive array of Thrusters and gyroscopes makes it impressively maneuverable considering its bulk, while its heavy plating means it is essentially invulnerable to conventional armament. Approaching this drone with a light ship is ill-advised, as are any attempts to outmaneuver it.
All of the Eradicator’s turrets are conveyor-fed from the large container.
Like all drones, the Eradicator’s turrets are its weak spot : the frontal two can be taken out at long range as it approaches. Since the drone is programmed to face enemy ships, and has more than enough gyroscopes to keep up with circling attempts, taking out the rear turret can be troublesome. A decoy can help greatly.
Note that in the case of light military vessels, this drone can arguably be a better prize than the ship it is assisting.

and a single Gravity Generator.
The station features three rooms, the first being the airlock, which utilizes 6 Airtight Hangar Doors, and a single Air Vent for pressurization if your world has oxygen enabled. The station’s two interior turrets are placed guarding the airlock, one immediately above located next to a green Interior Light and the second which is revealed by opening the airlock doors with the provided Button Panel. These are the only two interior defenses.
The next available room from the airlock is the Main Room. This features all of the station’s main equipment including oxygen generation, storage, and the station’s cargo containers. Two cryo chambers are mounted to Conveyors on the ceiling, with an oxygen vent between them. There are two Assemblers and a Large Cargo Container to the right, behind which are the Small Reactors and the station’s Battery, and to the left there is another Large Cargo Container, the Oxygen Generator, two Oxygen Tanks, and the Medical Room that is connected to the system via conveyor.
The furthest room is the ‘Rest Room’ featuring four Passenger Seats, two of which face space through three Window 1×1 Flats, while the other two are adjacent to Passages and face LCD Panels which both say «PIRATE TV».
On the exterior, two Gatling Turrets are mounted on the top side of the Raiding Station, and two are mounted on the ventral section, on opposite sides of the Beacon. These Gatling Turrets are on top of Conveyor Tubes surrounded by armor blocks. The turrets being mounted on these tubes gives them a relative height advantage, allowing a large firing angle almost encompassing any approach to the station. Caution is advised when attacking however the contents of the station’s cargo containers may prove worth the risk of engagement. The station’s antenna can spawn Incisor Mk 1s or other similar pirate defense ships like the Assailant. The station also requires an additional larger drone, equipped with gatling turrets, rocket launcher(s)?, and missile turrets. This could indicate the AI is possible of using rocket launchers, or it is possibly scripted to fire every few seconds.
