Many musicians are wondering… «How do I find the ISRC code for a song?»

If you ever wondered what an ISRC code don’t worry, you’re not alone!

ISRC codes can sound confusing but they really aren’t.

ISRC stands for international standard recording code.

This is a type of universal product code — it applies to music video recordings as well as any sound recording.

You’ll naturally get ISRC codes generated when uploading music to your distributor.

It works as a digital fingerprint for sound recordings.

I think of this as a barcode for sound recordings.

Once your sound recording is published, this ISRC code is a registered record that the sound recording exists and belongs to you,

Every song on the Billboard music charts has an ISRC code.

ISRC LOOKUP TOOLS TO FIND ISRC CODES

International standard recording codes are pretty damn easy to find!

This is because ISRC lookup apps exist.

Their purpose is to find ISRC codes for a song and to make the ISRC search easy as pie.

How to find ISRC code in 3 easy steps:

  1. Open a Chartmetric account
  2. Input the Spotify link to the released track on the search bar
  3. Under artist data, you will see find ISRC code

How to find IRSC code

Just sign in to your distribution platform where are you constantly uploading music.

You should see it there!

If you’re seeking an international standard recording code for a track that you don’t own then you’ll have to use Chartmetric’s analytic explorer.

Create a free account, then search for the song name.

Once you have the track open, the ISRC code is available to view.

Top 3 ISRC LOOKUP Tools

Chartmetric isn’t the ONLY way to find ISRC codes.

4 Free ISRC Lookup Tools

  • Chartmetric ISRC Lookup
  • ISRC Finder ISRC Lookup
  • SoundExchange ISRC Lookup
  • ISRC DATABASE ISRC Loopup

You should note that not every ISRC search tool is equal…

SoundExchange is more robust but requires more data to execute an ISRC search.

On the flip side, the ISRC finder tool is very intuitive and easy. That said…

I still recommend Chartmetric for ISRC code search.

There are many other tools and services included!

It is an ideal workflow for any music artist

ISRC FINDER

ISRC Finder Tool

If you want to find an SRC code…

ISRC Finder is the cleanest and simplest tool.

ISRC Finder is even better than Chartmetric at ISRC code search!

It only lacks Chartmetric’s bonus tools.

Quickly execute an ISRC code search, and reverse look up to search ISRC based on existing tracks.

Another benefit of this ISRC look-up tool is the UPC finder.

Most ISRC lookup tools don’t have this so this one is far above the rest.

SOUNDEXCHANGE ISRC

SoundExchange ISRC Search Tool

SoundExchange has an ISRC finder tool.

If you wanna know how to find an ISRC number then you can use Chartmetric…

But this is great for ISRC look-up when you have limited information.

This ISRC finder is legacy software, used mainly by record labels.

SoundExchange ISRC code finder allows these inputs:

  • Artist name
  • Title
  • Release Name
  • Release Version (radio edit)
  • Year or recording
  • File Type

This ISRC finder is advanced by allowing you to input many data sets

International Standard recording code

You probably have more questions about ISRC codes beyond the simple «how do I find the isrc code for a song?»

Every single song, album, and music release has an ISRC code.

Unless you assign a proper ISRC code to your music then you will not get paid.

When uploading music to streaming platforms you’re entering an agreement.

You’re giving them your content.

In return, your account will obtain payments — depending on how many streams it generates.

Streaming contract

Expensive software will assign the ISRC codes to any recordings that in aggravator will submit to them.

This music code is different depending on your region, every ISRC code has a country code prefix.

Your ISRC code he’s an account of all the track information:

  • Release date
  • Artist
  • Register country

The cool thing is this is a free service that happens when you register a track!

If you’re looking for free music distribution, look no further than our Boost Collective platform!

We auto-generate ISRC and UPC codes for your releases.

There’s a lot more you can do with the platform, as seen here! 👇

What are my ISRC codes good for

Your international standard recording code has a practical use as well!

Through your registrant code, you’re able to monetize on your track.

Streaming services send payment to which every distribution platform you’re uploading music on.

Rather than them finding you directly — the track information with your ISRC codes is used.

ISRC Code structure

There is an ISRC manager that overlooks all royalties for the track.

Even if you’re to sell the rights to your sound recordings to another party — the ISRC code would not change.

This is why some are considered a universal product code.

ISRC DATABASE LOOKUP TOOL

ISRC Database

The ISRC database is a tool that exists for I SRC codes to search.

ISRC Database is definitely the weakest ISRC code look-up tool…

It only allows you to input an already existing ASIC code.

It’s not very helpful if you’re trying to FIND an ISRC code. ..

That being said, this ISRC finder does execute the ISRC look-up function, and it’s lightweight.

If you have a bunch of ISRC codes to look up then this is the ISRC code checker you want to use.

the history of sound recording codes

The sound recording industry had trouble with copyrights in the past.

It was hard for multiple artists to lay claim and obtain legal ownership of something intangible such as music.

This is why the international standard recording code was created in the 80s.

With ISRC codes, record labels and artists can validate/assign ownership to their works.

ISRC code history

Just note that ISRC codes applied directly to the audio recording — not the composition or lyrical content.

This means that every new remix from the original song needs another ISRC code.

That alone should make this article helpful.

How ISRC registration works

The whole ISRC Service was assigned and released to the world originally to help PRIMARILY record labels.

The whole country code setup is there to help manage the UPC code system.

There is a whole file management system for International Standard Recording Codes to record either your first track or most recent album.

All album tracks & songs you release are held in the world database.

The upload happens via an online website, that’s how an artist can get stream royalties for their songs and tracks accounted for within minutes!

For example, the Billboard chart’s top artists’ sales are all recorded through the ISRC.

The record labels then identify and grab the complete royalties for all tracks they upload via ISRC and collect payments directly.

ISRC system

They don’t physically grab the complete report for the releases, they receive contact immediately to their publishing company.

The sales are recorded on the website within minutes.

For example: if you create your own publishing company and released your tracks to a streaming website directly (rather than having it released through Distrokid)

You’ll be getting your sales articles/pay stub direct contact.

ISRCs are made with a free distribution system so that record sales can be recorded instantly!

I hope you now know how to find the ISRC code for a song!

Obtaining Code

If you need to obtain ISRCs for recordings owned by others, including those owned by clients, independent artists and licensors, you should normally get the necessary ISRCs from the recording owner. Do not assign a second ISRC to the recording. There are two notable instances in which an ISRC may be assigned by someone other than the recording owner:

  • If you wish to assign ISRCs for independent artists or clients, please read about our ISRC Manager provision.
  • If you need ISRCs for licensed recordings and cannot obtain ISRCs from the licensors, please contact us at isrc@riaa.com

ISRCs can be obtained in one of two ways:

First, recording rights owners based in the United States can apply for a Registrant Code through the US ISRC Agency. This Registrant Code will allow that label, company or independent artist to assign ISRCs for its past, current and upcoming recordings. There is a one-time $95 application fee for the allocation of a Registrant Code. This Registrant Code is yours for life, and it will allow you to assign up to 100,000 ISRCs each year. If you have not already obtained a Registrant Code, you can apply for one through this website: Apply Here

Second, the U.S. ISRC Agency has allocated Registrant Codes for ISRC Managers, which they can use to assign ISRCs on behalf of clients or customers. ISRC Managers can provide individual ISRCs to independent artists or to those who do not wish to manage their own ISRC assignment. ISRCs are issued as a part of the business arrangement between the company and an artist, and they are assigned to only those tracks that fall within this agreement.

ISRC Managers must register with the US Agency in order to obtain the Registrant Code necessary to assign ISRCs for recordings that they do not own. ISRC Managers must agree to comply with a set of terms in order to be properly registered with the US ISRC Agency. A list of authorized ISRC Managers is available here. If you would like a copy or if you have any questions about whether the company with which you are dealing is legitimately registered, please send an email to: isrc@riaa.com.

Regardless of how your ISRCs are obtained, you will be able to use them for the life of the recording — there is no distinction between ISRCs issued by ISRC Managers and those issued using your own Registrant Code.

Please visit our Application Page for more information on how to register or how to become an ISRC Manager.

How To Find Song ISRC code on Spotify In Seconds

July 15, 2021

What is an ISRC code number?

An ISRC stands for The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC). This code is used for uniquely identifying sound recordings and music video recordings. An ISRC identifies a particular recording, not the work (composition and lyrical content) itself on Spotify.

So if you have the same song available on Spotify with the exact same track, but one of them is marked as US-EAC it means that this version may differ from another version that has a different ISRC code.

If an album is released in several countries at different times, each country’s release will have its own ISRC code.To begin with, I think that it is important to define this because the word «code» sounds a bit misleading and technical to me. It has been said by many people that you can’t buy an ISRC code, but instead of buying a code, one should simply register a title and a track on the ISRC database.

How To Find ISRC code on Spotify?

  • Go to Spotify and click the three little dots beside each song
  • Click share > then, copy song link
  • Head over to www.isrcfinder.com
  • Copy and paste song link into box
  • Click Find ISRC
  • There you have it — song ISRC code! :)

There are several websites where you can find your ISRC code, but the easiest way to find them is by using http://isrcfinder.com.

This website will also help you do other stuff like copy the tracking link (right-click on the song), download album artwork and lyrics. It is very important that all songs have unique ISRC codes because of copyright issues. If you are not registered in the ISRC database, then it may put your copyright at risk.

According to Spotify — «If you don’t provide us with an ISRC for new releases on Spotify, we will create one based on the title». So make sure that all of your tracks have unique ISRC codes.

Where is an ISRC code used?

ISRC codes are necessary to sell your individual tracks via Spotify and other online music distributors. They are also required for any songs that you plan to offer for streaming on Spotify and other streaming services.

If you are submitting an audio file for a streaming license, then ISRC code is your unique identification (ID). In the same way, when it comes to copyright, an ISRC code assists in clear rights management. It helps one in identifying exactly who owns the track and what his/her percentage ownership in the track is.

However, you don’t have to be a part of the ISRC database in order to distribute your music via Spotify. For example, you can sell your songs on iTunes without being registered into ISRC. But as I’ve said before, if you want to stream those songs through Independent Spotify playlists and other streaming services, then an ISRC code is a must.

In order to sell your songs on iTunes or as a CD, one does not need to have an ISRC code as each physical track is given its own unique UPC (Universal Product Code). However, it is easier for those music services that use an online database to keep track of their artists and the tracks they provide for streaming.

ISRC Finder

Any song you listen to nowadays will have an ISRC code and today we will be discussing everything ISRC finder related so you can get the process just right. What is an ISRC lookup and how to complete an ISRC code search? We will answer all these questions for you and more. Read on for more info!

What Is An ISRC?

An ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique identifier for sound recordings and music video recordings. It is used to identify and track music sales and streams and is the global standard for identifying sound recordings and music video recordings.

You can find your  ISRC through your record label or distributor, or search for it with an Online ISRC Finder Tool – or you may need to purchase one from a third-party provider.

The code was developed by the recording industry in conjunction with the ISO technical committee 46, subcommittee 9 (TC 46/SC 9), which codified the standard as ISO 3901 in 1986, and updated it in 2001.

The code only refers to the recording of the track (composition and lyrical content), therefore any revised recording, mastering, remixes, etc., will require a new ISRC code.

Why Are ISRCs Important?

ISRCs are important because they help identify recordings and ensure accurate tracking of sales and usage. They are used to track the performance of a song, and they provide essential information for royalty payments. ISRCs are also used to identify recordings in radio and television broadcasts, online streaming services, and in other digital music services.

How To Perform An ISRC Music Search

To perform an ISRC music search, you can use a variety of online music databases such as Discogs, AllMusic, and MusicBrainz. These databases allow you to search for music by ISRC, artist, album, or track name. Some streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music also have some ISRC search capability.

The easiest way to find your IRSC Code is with our ISCR Finder tool – which can search through millions of songs at the click of a button.

How To Perform An ISRC Search On Spotify

To perform an ISRC search on Spotify, you can use the “Search” feature on the Spotify app or website. When you type in your search query, you can add the ISRC code to the end of the query to narrow down your search. For example, if you are searching for a particular song, you can type in the song title, followed by the ISRC code. This will bring up the exact track you are looking for.

SoundExchange ISRC Search

SoundExchange is a nonprofit performance rights organization that collects and distributes digital performance royalties for featured recording artists and copyright owners. SoundExchange collects royalties from satellite radio (such as SiriusXM), internet radio (such as Pandora), cable TV music channels, and similar platforms for streaming sound recordings. It then distributes those royalties to the featured artists, copyright owners, and other rights owners.

In terms of an ISRC search, SoundExchange is a tool that allows users to search for recordings by International Standard Recording Code (ISRC). With the SoundExchange ISRC Search, users can search for recordings by ISRC, artist, title, and label. The search results will provide information about the recordings, including artist, title, label, ISRC, and other pertinent data.

IFPI ISRC Search

IFPI stands for International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. It is an organization that represents the recording industry worldwide. It works to protect the rights of artists, labels, and other music industry professionals, and to promote the value of recorded music.

An IFPI ISRC Search is a searchable database of International Standard Recording Codes (ISRCs) used to identify sound recordings and music video recordings. The codes are issued by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and are used by digital music services to identify recordings. The search allows users to look up specific ISRCs and view information about the recordings associated with them.

What Is An ISWC?

An International Standard Musical Work Code (ISWC) is an internationally recognized identification code for musical works, similar to an ISBN for books. It is used to identify and track the use of musical works around the world and to ensure that writers and publishers of musical works receive the royalties they are due.

Difference Between An ISWC & ISRC

An ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) is a unique identifier for a musical work, while an ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique identifier for a recorded sound or video. ISWCs are used to identify musical works, such as compositions, musical arrangements, and songs, while ISRCs are used to identify sound recordings and music videos.

What Is An Example Of An ISRC Code

ISRC codes are always 12 characters long, in the form “CC-XXX-YY-NNNNN”. The hyphens are not part of the ISRC code itself, but codes are often presented that way in print to make them easier to read.

  • “CC” is the appropriate two-character country code for the ISRC issuer.
  • “XXX” is a three-character alphanumeric registrant code of the ISRC issuer.
  • “YY” represent the last two digits of the reference year – the year that the ISRC was assigned to the recording.
  • “NNNNN” is a 5-digit number that identifies the particular sound or video recording, unique within the scope of the reference year.

A recording of the song “Crazy Eyes” by American duo Daryl Hall & John Oates has been allocated the ISRC code USRC17607839:

US for the United States

RC1 for RCA

76 for 1976

07839 as the unique id identifying this particular recording

What Happens If You Don’t Have An ISRC?

If you don’t have an ISRC, you will not be able to register your music with digital music services or collect royalties for your music. An ISRC is a unique identifier that is used to track and identify music recordings, and without it, you will not be able to properly register your music with digital music services.

Are ISRC Codes Necessary For A Cover Or A Remix?

Doesn’t matter, you still need a code for them. They might be recordings of an existing song but the recordings themselves are new and unique. So, they’ll need a unique ISRC.

Once a code is encoded, it should never be changed, even if the rights to the recording are transferred to a new owner. There is only ever one ISRC code for every song.

The encoding is usually left to either mastering engineers to do, record label staff, digital distributors, or CD manufacturers. You shouldn’t have to worry about doing the encoding yourself. You will, however, in most cases have to get the code yourself.

How Much Does An ISRC Cost?

The cost of an International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) varies depending on the country in which the code is being issued. Generally, the cost ranges from $0.50 to $2.00 per code.

Closing Thoughts

ISRC codes are vital as it allows distributors and broadcasters to do their jobs correctly. It also ensures you get paid! You will also need an ISRC for anything such as podcasts and audiobooks, so make sure you follow the same process.

Для мировых цифровых площадок, нужны две вещи:

  1. ISRC код для каждого трека
  2. UPC/EAN

UPC/EAN

UPC/EAN —

д.) и заработать деньги.
